TIPS AND TRICKS

TELL FP HOW TO CODE

Did you know that you can tell FP to base
some coding rules on a particular page
you have coded. For instance, you may use
a certain indentation method and want
FrontPage to apply that method
automatically to all of your pages.

With the page open in HTML view in FP
go to the Page Options from the Tools menu
and click the HTML source tab click the
button to "base on current page"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SHOWING ALL YOU HAVE
It's a good idea to insert a index page into
any folders you have on your website including
your images folder. By doing this visitors are not
looking through your images files, or lets say
any .exe files you have for download in a folder
for the purpose. They can't get past your index
page.
MAIN ARTICLE
USING FRONTPAGE 2002 CATEGORIES
By Frances McColl Stewart &
Tiffany K. Edmonds
http://dynamite-it.com
Using FrontPage 2002 Categories
With FrontPage you can assign files in a Web
site to a particular category to help manage the
files in your project. All files in your Web site,
such as image files and HTML files, can be
grouped or sorted by category, even if they are
stored in different folders. You can build a site
map by using categories (watch for an upcoming
issue on how to do this). Customized category
titles can be added to the master categories list.
The categories feature is one tool among several
web management tools built in to FrontPage
2002.
To associate a file with a category
- Right-click the file in the folder list or in any
view other than Tasks view, and select
Properties.
- In the Properties dialog box, click the
Workgroup tab.
- Select the category you want to associate
your file with. You may choose as many
categories as applicable for the particular file.
- Click the OK button.
To create your own categories to add to the
master categories list:
- On the Workgroup tab, click the Categories
button next to the Available Categories list.
- Type the name of the new category that you
would like to add and click Add.
- Repeat the steps of adding a new category
for each title that you want to add.
- Click OK to return to the Workgroup screen.
To remove a category that you do not want in
the master category list, select it and click
Delete. To restore the master category list to
the default list, click Reset.
To apply a category to multiple files at one time
- Click the Folders button on the Views bar (or
select Folders from the View menu).
- Press and hold CTRL while you click each
file to group in the same category.
- Right-click one of the selected files and then
click Properties.
- In the Properties dialog box, click the
Workgroup tab.
- Choose the category title(s) to apply to the
group of files you selected and then click the
OK button.
You can use the Workflow reports to view and
sort files in your web by the category you have
assigned them. The Workflow reports are
accessible from the Reports submenu in the
View menu. Select Category from the
Workflow reports menu and you will see the
category report. Click on the column headings in
this report to sort the files displayed.
FEATURED SITE
Our Featured Site is a Double Feature!!
Meet Anne Sharpe and Lesley Ann Hartman.
Interviews with each of them can be found on our
brand-new Members page,
http://anyfrontpage.com/bytes/members.htm
ANNE SHARPE's site, St Sacrement
Beaucerons, http://beaucerons.com  features her
small hobby kennel specializing in the rare
French herding breed, the Beauceron. This is
Anne's first site and is done in FrontPage,
although, as with most of us, it has matured into
a very different website from that first endeavor.
Anne has created a community now with her
Ezine, " Double Dews News" and her ICQ Chat
page, a shop with wearable and useful
Beauceron art items and an email list.
Take a minute and check out Anne's lovely and
tasteful FrontPage site. Considering that Anne's
FrontPage goal was to create a "credible web
presence including a variety of features and
functionality that creates a user/visitor friendly
environment", we think she's done that!
LESLEY ANN HARTMAN holds up her end of
this double feature with a double feature of her
own: the paintings on her sites are awesome
and http://www.lesleyannhartman.com  and
http://www.nature-artists.com  are delightful
FrontPage galleries for their display. The
majority of her commissions now come from
these online galleries. One site features the
work of three Internationally recognized women
artists (including her own work). The theme
flows easily into Lesley's own site featuring her
work alone.
Lesley, too, had a goal for learning FrontPage,
"… to continue to improve the site, making it
easy to navigate and decorative for people to
visit." She hopes that some of the more expert
members in our community will be able to give
her tips on how to improve it. We think she has
created a beautiful showcase for her work and
know that our generous members will be more
than happy to suggest any tweaks that might
help her.
