The
.m3u file allows you to stream audio over the internet.
To create a .m3u file do the following:
1. Record a .mp3 file on your desktop computer. Use a program like
Total Recorder from
http://www.highcriteria.com/
2. After you record and save the file make sure it sounds good buy
clicking on it. Total Recorder makes this fairly easy by having
the recording parameters already set-up.
3. Now upload the .mp3 file to a folder on your web server. I
suggest calling the folder audio.
4. Copy down the URL to your .mp3 file
(i.e.
http://www.yoursite.com/audio/file.mp3 ).
5. Using a simple text editor like notepad or Edit Plus
http://www.editplus.com/ just paste that URL into the
file and save the file. Call it play.m3u or something that you can
remember.
6. Now upload that file to your root directory so the URL to the
.m3u file is http://www.yoursite.com/play.m3u
7. This is the URL you will now link to for people to listen to.
This file does nothing but look at the first URL in the file and
then play that file. This is also how internet broadcasters create
playlists.
